Summer’s in full swing, which means it’s that time of year again to get out—out of the house, out of town, and even out of state as Americans hit the road for vacation. And while some may be traveling for the first time in a while, or never really stopped, nearly everyone is making plans to travel. Seven out of 10 US residents expecting to take a road trip this summer.
These trips will be completed in an ever increasing proportion of electric vehicles (EVs), with 1.4 million on the road at the moment, growing close to 29% every year. If you’re one of these EV vacationers, then making sure you have a way to charge the car will be on the forefront of your mind on the road and especially when deciding where to stay.
Assuming that having an EV charger will attract more guests, we took a look at the markets across the US that have the highest amount of rentals with a charger listed as an amenity on Airbnb.

While Stowe, Vermont sits at the top of the list, the majority are located along the West Coast, all the way from Bend down to Orange County. Texas also makes a showing with San Antonio, Austin, and Houston in the top 15 EV penetrated markets.
Across the US, just 0.8% of single family houses have EV chargers, compared with 1.6% of apartments and condos, as Home Owners Associations add electric vehicle charging stations for their residents.
As the demand grows and the market for electric vehicles continues to expand, vacation rental owners should strongly consider having EV charge ports in their properties to differentiate themselves from the competition and attract these potential eco-conscious customers.
